Valente Family Cassino

Postby ronzittie » 17 Feb 2010, 16:13

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help. I am trying to trace my family tree.

I know my Great Great Grandparents walked from Italy to England in the last 1890's.

There names were Crescenza and Guiseppe Valente from San Miguel, Cassino.

Any info would be very grateful.

Thanks

Hi, did you post a request on the bbc board?? My ancester supposedly walked to England, and settled in Birmingham, my great grandfather.. he was friends with a Valente family, though this is a common name. You would need to email/write to the archives of Cassino for your ancesters birth act and marrige if he married there. I'm sure someone will be able to give you the address, and how to compose the request in Italian. Where did they move to in England?

Hi I did post a message on the BBC Board. Thanks for replying.

They settled in South Shields but I know some of their children must have gone back as my great grandfather met his wife and married in Cassino, she was also a Valente but no relation!! They then at some point came back to South Shields but eventually settled in Dorset but both returned to Italy to retire!!

My father is Italian from an area near Cassino so I will get him to help me draft an e-mail!

What was your great gfathers name?

Thanks for your help, Elisa :D

Hi my gr gr grandfather Dominico and his brother Luigi settled in Belfast in c1880. Their father's name was Antoino. Apparently they came from either San Pietro Inifne, Villa Latina or Monte Cassino .... I have yet to find out exactly. They are recorded as musicians and later ice cream manufatures.

My grandparents (Pasquale and Angelina Capaldi) arrived in UK in about 1890 from San Miguel, near Cassino.

Welcome to this great site Bernard! It's nice of you to join us!
I am surprised i haven't come across this post before!

We have a Rosa Valente from San Michele, who married Orazio Capaldi, and her sister Giustina Valente married Giustino Torrice from San Michele, Cassino too! There are records of Orazio Capaldi with a Elisabetta Valente, but i don't know if it is Rosa's middle name or a relative?

Hi there,

I've just joined this site. I don't know much about my family due to circumstances in childhood so this is a real voyage of discovery for me. However I can say that my great grandmother was called Vingenza Valente, she came to the UK from Cassino with her parents Giuseppe and Crescenza Valente (maiden name Nardone). The story I have heard is that they too walked. They settled in Sunderland, then went on to Scarborough some years later. Does this ring any bells for you?
