Potenza and Amata Families

Postby Potenza68 » 28 Feb 2010, 22:41

My Grandfather ANTONIO POTENZA a stone mason married TERESA AMATA. They moved to the USA and had my father Joseph Anthony in 1929. Teresa (My Grandmother) died a month or so after childbirth.

Can you be a bit more specific as to what your research objectives are so that we can direct you accordingly?

Perhaps if you read how to do your own Italian Genealogy you can use it as a guide.
Go to www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwisdom/fr ... earch.html

We would like to assist you in achieving your research objectives. We furnished you with information and if you wish you might wish to go to www.ellisisland.org and look up ANTONIO POTENZA's arrival into the USA at NYC. His town of origin is listed and then everything will fall in place because of what we furnished you to read. =Peter=

If your family is from Richmond County NY, these draft registration cards may belong to your grandfather.
The one from 1917 may have a clue to where he was born.
Was his birthdate 24 Apr 1891?
Thank you!

Great :D !
We'll have to help you figure out what town that really is.
It appears that your grandfather learned to write English between 1917 and 1942.
Too bad he didn't list his town in 1942!

In 1942...I know the details... but I want to find relatives of my grandfather and grandmother...I am in awe that you found those 2 records as I am pretty good at research and I could not find.

Does this look correct?

From Ellis Island
possible 1914 manifest
from Tricarico (Matera, Basilicata)

Also if you don't already have this...

This appears to be your grandparent's marriage record
If you order it from the archives, it should list their parent's names

Name/ Marriage Date/ Marriage Certificate Number/ County

Potenza Antonio Apr 6 1919 13480 (1919) Manhattan
Amato Teresina Apr 6 1919 13480 (1919) Manhattan
