Suggestions or Assistance Appreciated - Bartolomeo

Postby Nimby5956 » 21 Mar 2010, 04:10

I'm having trouble finding my gr-grandparents on any census records (New York).
My grandfather Gerardo Bartolomeo (born in the Manhattan) is easily found with his wife/children.

I received a copy of his original marriage certificate stating his parents names were:
Perry
Clara Loretta

A copy of his original SS card application lists his parents as:
Peter
Nicoletta Loreda

I ordered his birth certificate; although it's been some time and I have not yet received it. I want to order his death certificate; however, I can't order it without his parents names.

Any reason why I can't find a trace of them on a census?

Are you sure that his parents came over here? And that they stayed?
If so, how do you know this?

Do you have their ship records?
Do you know the parents date and place of death or burial?

Have you already traced siblings? If the parents stayed here they may have lived with a sibling in their older years- and could be listed with them in the census.

There are quite a few different routes you could take here but we'd need to know how much you have to go on so far and which avenues you've already explored.

According to my grandfather (deceased), he was born in the US. This is also documented on the Census records listing him and his wife/children.
He did have one brother in the US - Domenic, but I don't know anything about him, where he lived/died (although I do have a prayer card w/date)

I can't find Gerardo's parents on any ship manifests...The only thing I found that was a 1909 trip made by a "P Bartolomeo"

I suppose his parents (my gr-grandparents) may not have remained in the US, but I imagine they would have had to stay here for at least some time, since Gerardo (their son) grew up in the US.

I suppose it's also possible that they were out of the country at the time of the census.

pink67 - thank you for including the link

As I said, I'm still waiting for his birth certificate and I don't want to take up too much time of any of the members here.

Very interesting.......Looks like the father of Gerardo and father of Mary knew one another from Italy. Setting the stage for an arranged marriage.

I'm curious as to why Nicola would have given his cousin as his final destination on this manifest when his wife and children were already living in the US? Any ideas?

Fascinating stuff....
