Birth & Social Security questions

Postby RVcook » 13 Oct 2002, 20:55

Regarding the Social Security Information: If your grandfather had a social security number, he would have filled out an SS-5 form. Sometimes the place of birth, spouse and parents names were listed, sometimes not. If you know where he died, get a copy of his death certificate as it usually has the SSN on it. Then request a copy of the original SS-5 applicationfrom Social Security. You can find samples of the request letter on line at different locations. You can also find more information about this form at the SS website. Put \'SS-5 sample form letter\' into google and you\'ll get lots of choices. Also, you can request a copy even if you are unable to get the SSN the cost is just a bit more. Good luck in your sesarch.
Donna
Birth & Social Security questions

The only place to obtain records in Italy usually is the town of origin of the person you are interested in researching. Soimetimes it is easy to find it and othertimes it is difficult. Please let me know what you know or when you get the information. Peter
