Postby april2579 » 11 Apr 2010, 04:54

I'm also looking for information on my Great Grandfather, he seems to have immigrated to the US alone.. his father's name was Gerardo D'Ambrosio and lived in Goriano... thats all I've been able to find thus far

any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

Have you found a passenger list for Antonio since you say you know that he seems to have immigrated to the U.S. alone? do you know where in the U.S. he settled? Some additional information would be helpful to the people on this forum who want to try to help you.

Yes I have found him on a passenger list, he settled in East then West Bridgewater Massachusetts... he Married Nicolena LaFratta, my dad said they went back to Italy and got married there as well

I found only one of his secondary trips back to the US that I'm positive is him... on the Conte Verde through NYC arrived May 1st 1925, from Naples

There is another listing on the Cretic into Boston in 1912, there is a different birth location and father's name, the DOB and name are the same but I'm dubious about this one

ANTONIO DAMBROSIO 03 Aug 1893 Aug 1983 02379 (West Bridgewater, Plymouth, MA) SS# 022-10-9577 Mass.

This is him in the social security index. You can view it at the website www.rootsweb.com

You can print a letter to social security right off of this website. For $27 with his ss# above, you can get a copy of his social security application. This should have both parents' name on it and his town of birth.

I see a world war II draft registration card for him

you can go to www.familysearchlabs.org to view this card and get a copy of it. It is two cards actually.

to find it, you need to just register on that website with a username and password. Go to browse our collections and down to United States, World War II draft registration cards, 1942. Then go to Massachussetts. Find the first letter of the last name , then go to Da, and then look for the Damboise, Narcisse, Joseph. When you click on this name, it will say 40 images. Go through then until you reach his card. There are two cards-

on this card, you will see that he lived at 2 Plain St in Bridgewater. His date of birth and town of birth are on this card, as well as his wife's name. (the card is image 37 of 40). You will also need image 38.

That would be exactly right, 2 plain st is the same house they lived in until they both died :)
