Postby Leveeblues » 25 Apr 2010, 23:15

I have the Passenger List for Ship Bolivia that arrived in New Orleans,La. USA, 1898. Need to know of a site that may have embarkment/departure lists from Palermo for this vessel.

Hi Leveeblues,

You may be able to find transcriptions of New Orleans arrivals on other sites, but ancestry. com may be the only site with the actual images.

Note: these arrivals are actually the departure lists filled out in the country of origin:
from about. com
http://genealogy.about.com/od/passenger ... ations.htm
Contrary to popular belief, U.S. customs officials or Immigration Services did not create ship passenger lists. Ship manifests were completed, generally at the point of departure, by steamship companies. These passenger manifests were then submitted to the immigration officials upon arrival in the United States.
U.S. immigration officials were known to add annotations to these ship passenger lists, both at the time of arrival or many years later. These annotations may have been made to correct or clarify certain information, or to reference naturalization or other relevant documents.

from your other post:
For everyone's reference, here's the 1898 manifest you mentioned

Oct 1898, SS Bolivia
Calogero Di Vincenzo 33, abt 1865

Livio and Valerie, Your info has been most helpful. Apparently, Guiseppa Severino, wife of Calogero DiVincenza, died in Sicily as suggested earlier. My next quest is to verify this.
