My heritage

Postby pattyr62 » 28 Apr 2010, 12:40

I am new at this and I am on a quest to find out my Italian Heritage. I was wondering where can I search and what is the best search site to use. I have names and some information. My grandparents on both sides came to the US from Italy in the 1900's.

Thank you,
Patty R.

Welcome to this forum, Patty-
If you post some specific information you know about your grandparents-where in Italy they came from, possible years of birth, where they lived in this country, etc, then a lot of us on this forum will be able to help you and give you a sense of direction.

I am looking for my grandparents information on both sides. I have some information and I hope it is helpful. Their surnames are Stramento on my Mothers side and Sputo on my Fathers side. They all immigrated from Italy in the 1900's. I have found that some of the names were spelt wrong but these two spellings are correct. Any help would be appreicated.

Patty, "Stramento" is almost certainly not correct. The name does not exist in modern Italy and Ancestry . com does not have a single immigration record under that name.

The more info you give us, the more likely we can help you.

Grandfather's first name? Approximate year of birth? Names and birth years of any known siblings?

Grandmother's first name? Approximate year of birth? Names and birth years of any known siblings?

Do you know if they married in Italy or met/married in the US? Any idea as to what year?

Their children's names and approximate birth years?

I think the names are mispelled and I am thinking Strameato was the mispelling. My dad Alexander Sputo was name after his deceased brother Alexander. My mothers real name was Margaret Rose Stramento after it was corrected. All the names of the sibilings on both sides are correct 9 on dads side and8 on my mothers side.

Thanks again to all for your help...

Thank you for all the information VJ but the name and address is not the same. As far as I know there was no Sadie. On one certificate I have it says last name Stramanti but I know for a fact it is Stramento. When they came over they didn't keep such good records. MyMothers birth certificate says Stramento. I went to footnotes and I got some information but I really don't know how it works some of my Mothers sibilings were not there. Same as with my Father some of his siblings cannot be found. Perhaps they all had Italian names until they changed them to American names but I do appreciate your help.
