There are several websites for Italian given names and English equivalents, but I'm going to recommend mine

Here is the link:

My Italian surnames:

Caserta: Maietta, Rossano, Tessitore, Negro, Peluso, Musone

Campobasso: D'Andrea, Barile

Catanzaro: Fiorelli/Fiorillo, Romito

I had a great-grandfather named Geremia. Seems like another good possibility for Jerome, don't you think?

You might get some other ideas by perusing the "G" names here http://www.nomix.it/700g.php

My elementary school (Livio - that was grades Kindegarten through 6, approximately ages 5-6 through 12-13) had a large and very impressive statue on one corner of the grounds with the inscription "Cristoforo Columbo" below.

I don't remember how old I was when I finally figured out that he was the same guy as the Christopher Columbus we learned about in class.

Hey! It's still there! http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= ... 1,,1,-1.24
