Altobelli family

Postby gina martin » 04 Apr 2004, 21:45

I am looking for information about my great grandmother and her family. Her name was Giovanna Altobelli. I do not know her parents. I believe that she was from S. Vito in the province of Chieti. She married my great grandfather, Andrea Marrocco, about 1886 or 7. They lived in Rocca San Giovanni and had 9 children: Rocco, Angela, Nicoletta, Elodia, Assunta, Adelina, Florindo, Antonino and Guido. Three of those children, including my grandmother Angela (married Michele Basciano) went to Canada. The rest stayed in Italy.

Any info on the Altobelli, Marrocco or Basciano lines would be greatly appreciated.

Gina

Hi Gina, My grandfathers name was Antonio Altobelli born in 1893 in Italy came to America around 1907 or so. He settled in Detroit, Michigan where he had my father Anthony J. Altobelli. My grandmothers name was Rosa Santelia she was born in 1907 in Arkansas but her parents were from Italy. I don't know what happened between them but she married a man named Kennith Smith when my father was very young. His father was not spoken of never even saw a picture of him.

Just in case you don't know & would like to trace the family in Italy......

The LDS Church (Mormans) have filmed the civil records (birth, marriage, & death acts) for the town of San Vito Chietino, 1809-1865. Here is a link to the avalable films.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... an+Vito+++

Locate your local LDS-Familly History Center.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

Guide to obtaining the above films.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

And an Italian-English word list that may help.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... Italia.ASP

Any records (1865 & up) needed that are not included in these films, you can write to:

Officio di Stato Civile (or) Ufficio dello Ststo Civile
66038 San Vito Chietino (CH)
ITALY

Letter should be in Italian & include a self addressed return envelope, a copy of your photo ID & an international reply coupon (obtain from your local post office-covers the cost of the return postage)

Including the below information, just in case you need it.

Films for Rocca San Giovanni

Hope this helps.

Hi Gina,

When did your Grandmother come to Canada? Can you provide more info such as year of birth, immigration info... did any go to the USA... and then to Canada?

As for Giovanna Altobelli, if she didn't come to the USA or Canada, info will be difficult to find on the internet... your best bet is to research from film as suggested by jcsm.

Quite the beautiful weather here in Ontario... and not like 3 weeks ago eh?

Maria
