Southern Italian ancestors

Postby Truglio » 20 May 2010, 11:05

I am trying to find information about my husband's Italian grandfather who served in the Italian army during WWI and was taken prisoner by the Germans. Can anyone tell me where to look for POW records?

Hello and welcome to this forum-
I would try contacting the NARA (National Archives and Record Administration). Here is a link to their website-

http://www.archives.gov/

Across the top of the website, there is a link to contact them.

WW1 indexes and records for Italy are not immediately available which means writing a letter to the Italian Army archives at:
ESERCITO D'ITALIA, L'archivo Storico, Via XX Settembre, ROMA, Italy and requesting information.

However the International Red cross may be able to assist you as welll. Go to www.icrc.org/eng/contact-archives (it is in english) and submit the application as directed. =Peter=
