Bianculli, Biancullo, Pisticci Italy

Postby kasmith1179 » 21 May 2010, 03:40

Looking for information on Theresa Ann Marie Bianculli b. 1887 in possibly Pisticci. I believe her brother was Donato. Their parents were Nicolas and Grace. She came to America in the 1908, but her brother came before her. Theresa married Francesco DiCarlo/ DeCarlo in New York. Frank was born abt 1878 in Reggio di Calabria and his parents were Joseph and Mary DiCarlo. I dont think any of their parents came to the US. They lived in Manhattan, NY in 1910 and 1920. In 1930 they are in North Bergen, NJ. This is my stepmom's grandparents. She is wanting to know as much about them as possible. We would like to obtain birth records, death records and any of other documents we can find. I would really appreciate any help I can get. Thanks

Hello,
you can find Pisticci civil records going to FHL (mormons) and you can rent the microfilms

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... isticci+++

or you can write only in italian to Pisticci civil record office

Comune
Ufficio di Stato civile
Piazza dei Caduti
75015 Pisticci (MT)
Italy

or you can write, only in italian, to Matera State Archive

http://www.basilicata.beniculturali.it/ ... ente=116&i

Also, I have found a Bianculli Domenico, son of Nicola, who was born in Pisticci, who died for disease during WW1

http://www.cadutigrandeguerra.it/Albo_O ... i/8/18.jpg

These are Reggio Calabria civil records micofilm

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... eggio+di++

This is Reggio Calabria civil record office address

Comune
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Piazza Italia
89100 Reggio Calabria
Italy

and this is Reggio Calabria State Archive

http://www.archivi.beniculturali.it/UCB ... O+CALABRIA

I hope it helps
bye Riccardo

Thanks so much for the information. I really appreciate it. I am currently trying to round up their death records from New Jersey. I need to find out where they are buried in Hudson county and check the dates before I can attempt to get the death certs. Thanks again

Hi kasmith! Welcome to the forum :-)

Riccardo has given you some very good information, especially the addresses to write for civil records. As he said, you need to write in Italian. Here is a link to help you that generates a letter in Italian.

http://circolocalabrese.org/resources/l ... civile.asp

If you know the comune (town) of birth for ancestors, and their date of birth/death/or marriage, you can request each of these records from the comune. There is no need to send any money, only a self-addressed UNSTAMPED envelope.
If you know the names of parents, that helps immensely.

T.

This is interesting... :D

Donato Bianculli's first arrival in the U.S. (1905):

Donato Bianculli, age 23, married, from Pisticci to NY to join his brother Domenico Bianculli :!:

Maybe Domenico stayed in the U.S., returned to Italy and died ....

possible 1905 arrival for Grazia Motta, Donato's wife?:

http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0028

and 1908 arrival for Donato, age 26, married and Maria Bianculli, age 19, single (brother and sister) from Pisticci (leaving there their father Nicola) going to Union City NJ?? to join Donato's wife (Maria's sister in law) Grazia Motti:

page 2:
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0003

Possible 1904 arrival for Domenico Bianculli:

http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0007

Domenico Bianculli, age 19, single from Pisticci to Jersey City NJ to join his cousin Michele Galeone...

I am definitely going to check out everything everyone has sent. I have found some notes stating that Theresa had a brother named Dominic and her husband Francesco DeCarlo had a brother named Anthony. Maybe that will also help to narrow down the search for them. I really appreciate all the help.

I received Maria Teresa Bianculli's birth registery in the mail today. I am so thrilled. It says date of birth was 22 Jun 1889 in Pisticci father Nicola Bianculli and mother Grazia Di Tursi. So now I can start to look for family . Thanks to everyone for all of your help. It was much appreciated.
