DiBernardo Family from Saratoga, NY

Postby tonij16102 » 21 May 2010, 17:04

Can someone help me with this? I don't have a subscription to Ancestry. I am looking for information on John DiBernardo but it was changed to Bernard. His father's name was either Francesco or Vincenzo DiBernardo and his mothers name was Carmela Cappibianco. I have been trying to piece this puzzle together for yrs. Carmela passed away in the 80's at over a 100 yrs old in Saratoga Springs, NY. Cld someone find them on the censuses for me plz and ty. It wld be greatly appreciated

Toni

Hello Toni :-)

We'd be happy to help...

Did they always living in Saratoga Springs? Were they born in USA, or another country? If another country, when approximately, did they immigrate to USA? Besides Carmela's estimated birth date being about 1880 - 1890, do you have a date for John?

Anything you can provide as further detail would greatly help.

They immigrated to the US from Italy but not sure when. I have little information on this family. I talked with some members that were adopted by John and his wife but they really knew nothing. Other than this I know nothing sadly

Yes this is the right family. Two sister's married two DiBernardo's. Carmela's sister Maria Rosa Cappibianca was married to my great-grandfather's brother Francesco. So I have been trying to make the connection between this family. I was told John's father died in the 40's. So where do I go from here? I have tried to figure this all out. I just hit dead ends. Thank-you for all of the help greatly appreciated

This is the right family...but where exactly do I go from here? It mentions a brother Frank I am wondering if its not a brother-in-law instead of brother. Is there a way to find a death certificate on James and Frank? Just exactly what do I have to do? Francesco didn't have a brother named James but who knows maybe they used middle names instead?? There were two wives in the family in Italy the first died and the father my great-great-grandfather remarried and started a whole second family maybe cld be connected thru this side. Any ideas? TY you guys are the best

For further research, another option would be to (also) order the microfilmed vital records from Camigliano
Valarie

Your nearest Family History Center has records for Camigliano on microfilm.
The cost is about $6 mo (rent), you’ll need to go to the center to order & view them.

Are there any manifests that give names of parents that wld be very helpful. Is there anyway to find out abt Antonio in the censuses? Maybe if there is a name there I can maybe figure out where they fit in. Tall order I know. TYVM

James is a common 'americanization' of Vincenzo
(one theory is it had to do with how the nickname 'Cenzo' sounded like James...)

Death records can be found in either the state (Vermont or NY) or the county where the death took place.
The information will only be as accurate as the knowledge or memory of the person giving the details (the 'informant')
