Surname "AUGULETTO"

Confussion has got the best of me. HELP!!!
My Husbands surname "Auguletto", I believe is Italian.
My husbands Sonni "Auguletto" Father never knew his father Wilmo "Auguletto" . He died before he was born of taberculoses in his early 20's.
I found an Antonio "Augilletto" in the Ellis Island files (who could possably be Great Grandfather.) He was a resident of Mangiana Italy and arrived in May of 1910. Also says in ship manifest he could not speak english.
Also found a John Auguletto in the 1910 census of Bridgport Conneticut living as a boarder with family by the surname of "Salgo". Then later in 1920 census with his own family wife Maria?, son Alberto .daughter Cariva?, son Dorando daughter Clara. and son John.

Father in law was born in 1931. Could John and Antonio be the same person?[/img]

Maybe some clarification might help. Your husband's name is Sonni...that appears to be a nickname. What is the real first name? Did your husband have brothers and sisters older then him? If so, what are the names? What is the name of his mother? Maiden name? Was she born in the US or Italy? Where in the US did Sonni's father live? Where was Sonni born?

Be as specific as possible and we can check and see if we can find out where his father was. Wilmo doesn't appear very Italian...so the spelling might well be off a bit.

Thanks for the clarification..but nothing here. We need to find the family in the census and so far, no Wilmo/Wilmot/Vilmo/Merle/ or even just a list of Italalians in Marion County, MO in 1930 give up a name similar. So he could have been in another state all together prior to the census...this makes things more complicated.

OK...do you have the name of Sonni's mother? Any idea of what her maiden name was? Have you attempted to get a marriage record? You state Sonni was the oldest and only son...were there any daughters?

Did Sonni end up in RI as a child or as an adult? Do you know where he grew up? Because the census ends for all practical purposes in 1930...last year to be released, we have to have info that gets us over that hump in time. If we can find one clue...one fact...that gets up back to that time, we might be able to find out more...that is why I keep looking for clues that might help.

One more thing, did Sonni's mother remarry? Who did she marry and about when and where? This might help as well........

Let's see if we can get a step back! Hang in there, it will come.......

Also, Suanj presents an interesting argument....would be worth checking into as well....

Really appreciate you both for your help.
Sonni's mothers maiden name was Alice Marie Caldwell. She was married 3 times. First husband do not know his name but they had a daughter her first name was Babe. Then she married Wilmo Auguletto and they had Sonni but Wilmo died(in his early 20's) of TB before Sonni was born. Then she married Marrion "Bean". Sonni went by the surname "Mcgeorge" till he joined the navy. Then saw his birth certificate said Wilmo Auguletto named as his father. Maybe McGeorge is her first husbands surname, I don't know.
Sonni was an adult when he was in Rhode Island. He had joined the navy and was sent there to take some classes. Sonni grew up in Illinois, Chicago.
I have not attempted to get a marriage record. on Alice Marie and Wilmo Auguletto. How do I do that?

Victoria......
I looked at the microfims for Missouri at the FHL (FAmily History Library) and nothing available for Missouri. So you will have to request info from Missouri directly.

1. Do you have a copy of Sonny's birth certificate? If not, get that first. It might list the address of where he was born and if it was at home, you will know where they lived at the time. Then you can try and find a city directory for that period of time and see if they are listed.

2. The "death" of Wilmo had to be within 9 months of the birth of Sonny, so this is the period of time you have to find the death certificate. You need to contact the Health Dept for Vital records:

Marion County Vital Records
Marion County Health Department
3105 Route W
P.O. Box 1378
Hannibal, MO 63401
(573) 221-1166

You might wish to call and see if you can submit request by e-mail and what the cost will be.

3. If this fails, see what you can find out about the McGeorge link...do you know where Babe was born? Were they in Missouri at the time?

4. There is an entry for an Alice Bean in the Social Security Death index. Could this be the mother of Sonny? If so, try and find a death certificate for her...maybe you can find out where she is buried and get info from the cemetery as well. This might give you some answers. If you can find a newspaper obituary for her, it might list other husband's, parents, etc. This can help find other records....like marriage, as well. If nothing else available you can get a copy of the record from Social Security and see what information it contains. I don't recommend this first because it costs a bit to get the record and you might get the info from other sources. Also, the listing might not be her, so it is an option of last resort.

5. Find out about Babe from the obit. It might give you her married name and help track her back as well.

6. There was a reference to a Sonny McGeorge in an Illinois newspaper from 1947...says he was a boxer....is this your Sonny?

Something about all this doesn't quite fit...I am not sure how much before the birth of Sonny, Wilmo was in Missouri. That is the major drawback. Also, if he died of TB before the birth of Sonny, he probably had to go to a TB hospital prior..most did not stay home. Also, if that ill, hard to believe he married and fathered a child while dying...but guess it is possible. Seems like TB people were quarentined....so maybe all the facts are not quite right.

Let us know how it goes...but you have a lot of info to track down. Anything we can do to help?.... please ask.
