Ellis Island vs Castle Garden

Tell me, whats the difference between, Castle Garden and Ellis Island? How do you know where one went..? Can u see C.G. from Ellis?

Castle Garden was the primary entry point on the northeast coast until 1892 when the then new Ellis Island opened. See Wikipedia's Castle Garden entry and Ellis Island entry for more information.

Please keep in mind that our Italian ancestors entered the US through many ports, not just New York. Boston was a major point of entry; Philadelphia and even Canadian ports somewhat less but still important, not to mention New Orleans.

The few sites where you can find all of these ports indexed in one place are the pay sites such as Ancestry . com.
