Trace down someone in Sicily

Postby SamCec » 17 Jul 2010, 19:37

Hi:
Folks on this forum helped me about 14 months ago trace down some info on my grandparents. Now I am asking for help on another relative.

My father is 94 years old. His parents were born in Caccamo Sicily. He still has some relatives there. Our last name is spelled "ceccola", The family name was spelled "cecala". Somehow the spelling got changed when they came into Ellis Island. My dad is looking for his cousin. His cousin's name is: Philip Chaklow--Cecala. (I'm not sure if "Chaklow" is in his name.) He might be a "Junior". I'm not sure but I believe he may be a lawyer. Is there any way I can find out his address and/or phone number. I would like to contact this relative.

Thank You,
Sam Ceccola
Thank You,
Sam

Is this cousin in Italy or the US?

You won't believe this, but there are three Filippo Cecala's living in Caccamo listed in the Italian telephone directory. See http://www.paginebianche.it/execute.cgi ... ccamo&l=en

If you want to write letters, flip the addresses around so they look like this (the first listing):

Filippo Cecala
Via Cairoli, 10
90012 Caccamo PA
ITALY

PS: suffixes like "Jr" are not used in Italy. In fact, under current Italian law, a male child cannot bear the name of his father nor can a female child be given the same name as her mother.
Carmine

My hobby is finding things. Having found most of my own, I am happy to help others find theirs. PM me! :)

The cousin I am looking for is in Caccamo. My dad is 94 and his memory is going but when I was over his house this morning, he said he believed that his cousin is a lawyer.

Thank you so much for your help. I do have one more question: Is there an easy way to obtain there e-mail addresses?

I will write to all 3 individuals and hopefully I will get a response.
Thank You,

Sam

Emails can be difficult to find.

You might try googling "filippo cecala avvocato" (avvocato is italian for attorney) and see if anything turns up.

Speaking of turning up, I see that a Giovanni Cecala is on the town council of Caccamo. In a relatively small comune (~8,000 persons), he is almost certainly a relative. See http://www.comune.caccamo.pa.it/cittadi ... &Itemid=28

The general mailbox for the comune is info@comune.caccamo.pa.it (remove the spaces).

Also, there are several Filippo Cecala's who are members of Facebook. Worth checking out, especially if you already have an account: http://it-it.facebook.com/srch.php?post ... ppo+cecala

Hmmm... I wonder what this is? http://www.lawlink.com/research/CaseLevel3/24213

PS: Good luck! Let us know how you make out.

Does this guy look like he could be a relative? It's from a January 11, 1997 newspaper/magazine article - http://www.123people.com/ext/frm?ti=per ... wrt_id=366

I printed the photograph and the article and took it over to my dad. The last time he saw these people was in 1967. He's 94 and just can't remember. He has forgotten most of his Italian but his 101 year old sister still knows it. He will have the story translated.

Thanks again for all your help.

Sam
