Giacomo Cancilla

Postby Lauriehass » 26 Jul 2010, 01:32

I am looking for information about my great-grandfather, Giacomo (Joseph) Cancilla who immigrated from Italy (don't know what town) to Canada in the late 1800s. I want to know what port he may have come into. He apparently left from LeHavre, but I can't figure out where he landed.

He ended up in Ontario--near Niagara falls. Any ideas?

His name was definately Giacomo?
Joseph in Italian is usually Giuseppe, and Giacomo is usually Jack, or James?

now the problem is to find the right first name of your Giacomo/Joseph, if really Giacomo or Giuseppe... and the arrival... most probably he was sicilian...

This is the right family--but they have always spelled it Cancilla--it could be a mis-reading. Mary Cancilla Caimano is my grandmother. Her first husband Dominic Caimano died and left her with three young children. She later married my grandfather, Albert Wackett. They all eventually settled in Niagara Falls/Buffalo.
