Looking for information on Catherine Marino

Postby amorphose » 05 Aug 2010, 03:12

Hello! Because the last time I sought out help here, it was so wonderful, I'm back again trying to find information on a different ancestor!

I'm trying to find out where my great, great grandmother Catherine was born in Italy and when she and her parents came to the United States.

Here's the info I have on her--
Name: Catherine Mastro Pugliese Marino (also: Merino, Murino)
Parents: Frank and Anna Marino (I don't know Anna's maiden name)

(Mastro was her first marriage and Pugliese was her second)

Birth date: June 25, 1882 *according to her death certificate*

(It may have also been April of 1877; I don't remember where I got that info, but that's what I had before I found her death certificate.)

Her first husband was Antonio Mastro and her second husband was James Pugliese.

I got a little bit of information on her here once before when I was researching her son-in-law, so I don't need anything on her later life in Steubenville, Ohio (which is where she resided in the US.)

What I'm looking for is her birth place in Italy, and any and all information on her parents and when the family came to the US.

Thanks very much for your help!
~Shane

Do you have a census which shows the year of her arrival in the US?

Note: the numeric notation ("23-19884") alongsinde Carlo's name is an indication that he began the process of naturalization by filing a Declaration of Intent and obtaining a Certificate of Arrival.

If this looks like your family, you can seek out Carlo's naturalization papers which will contain his actual place of birth (though Cerisano is a very likely outcome).

In the 1900 census, it says she came over in the 1895 and in the 1920 census, it says 1896. In the 1920 census it also says she was naturalized in 1910, but the 1930 census says 1905.

The names on that ship manifest seem really unfamiliar, but thanks, I'll check it out!
