Seeking a "key" to LDS Palermo Microfilm

Postby sforza » 10 Aug 2010, 16:17

Hello,
Does anyone know of any "key" to the LDS Palermo microfilm? I've located my GGGM's marriage record in the Palermo marriage index, which includes the date, volume and record #, as well as the district. However, there are at least seven different LDS microfilms of marriages in Palermo for that year. The film notes do not indicate the district or give any other clue as to how they are ordered. Has anyone cracked this? I'd prefer not have to order them all at $5.50 a pop.
In case anyone has consulted the microfilm I'm looking for, here is the info: date of marriage 17 Feb 1833. District: Sant'Agata (Palermo).
Many thanks,

Member Hugh Tornabene has transcribed Palermo films:

Yes, I got the index info on my GGGM from Hugh's site. The question is how to ascertain which LDS microfilm has my record. There are seven microfilms covering 1833 and the film notes don't indicate which district.

Have you tried sending him a private message? Maybe he can provide some help...

Yes, I corresponded w/Hugh about this. Before contacting the LDS directly, I thought I'd post to the forum to see if someone else had dealt with this. This is what I'm grappling with - seven different films cover 1833, with no description in the film notes:
Matrimoni 1832-1834 FHL INTL Film
1443261
Matrimoni 1833-1835 FHL INTL Film
1442201
Matrimoni 1831-1833 FHL INTL Film
1441864
Matrimoni 1833-1835 FHL INTL Film
1441865
Matrimoni 1833-1835 FHL INTL Film
1442218
Matrimoni 1832-1835 VAULT INTL Film
1455676
Matrimoni 1826-1835 VAULT INTL Film
1455688

I had asked Hugh that question in 2009 and unfortunately he had the same issue.

Posting from Hugh in 2009

Hi Joann,
OK. Here come some of my sins.
Those years are most likely 1901 and 1903. O is often turned into 11.
The Scali, as you say is a Scalidi with the di eaten by a glitch in the program which I only noticed towards the end of the run. And Scafidi could easily be read as scalidi by the OCR. software.
uff. 1 is the standard abbreviation for ufficio 1. Office 1, meaning down town Palermo.
"If I knew how to find the actual records I would get those for my own ancestors." Those v = volume and n = number are the clue, though I don't really trust the OCR to have transcribed them accurately.
