Hi and welcome to the forum,

Here is the text of the manifest.

http://www.ellisisland.org/search/viewT ... 2633010092

It is misfiled at Ellis Island and badly mistranscribed. I think the town of origin in Termini which could be one of these 2 places.

Termini, comune of Massa Lubrense - province: Napoli - region: Campania

Termini Imerese, comune of Termini Imerese - province: Palermo - region: Sicily

Since he sailed from Naples, my hunch would be that it is the first, but the name Polito does appear in Termini Imerse.

If this is Joseph's social security death record, you may want to consider obtaining a copy of his original social security card application. It should list his place of birth , along with other useful information such as his mother's maiden name.

Name: POLITO, JOSEPH
Born: 05 Feb 1897
Died: Nov 1958 age 61
Card issued: Pennsylvania
SS#: 210-09-3469

How to order SS-5 Social Security Application form: http://genealogy.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi= ... t/main.jsp

My wife's maiden name is ShirleyPolito. Her father was Carl Polito and her grandfather was John Polito. Carl was Joseph's brother. Carl moved from Scranton to Newark, NJ. It appears you and Shirley may be cousins. I too am researching the Polito family of Scranton, PA

Re Joseph Polito,
Did your grandfather move away to Canada? I know that my grandfather Salvatore had a brother Giuseppe (Joseph) and his parents were Giuseppa and Ignaztio from Termini Immerse Sicily (This is from marriage documents) He also had a brother Agostino and Fillipo (Philip) and a brother Ignaztio who lived in Sicily (born there later I believe). I know the parents returned to Sicily and my grandfather was raised by another family in Toronto Ontario. His brother Joe was divorced in the 1950's and moved to Beaverton Ontario. Joseph's wife's name was Josephine. I have the divorce document. I have been trying to track down where Joseph lived before he divorced but have not been able to discover this. Maybe he is not the same person but the ancestry record of Giuseppa traveling with Salvatore age 8, Giuseppe age 5 and Agostino age 2 to meet her husband (and other son Fillipo)is I am certain that of my grandfather. Is your grandfather buried in Scranton? If so then he is not the same Joseph because my great uncle Joseph Polito died in Toronto Ontario (about age 61).
I live in Lindsay Ontario. Darlene Polito
