Caruso & Dinardo or Denardo Gamberale, Chieti, Abruzzo,

Postby lonnad » 03 Sep 2010, 00:05

Looking for information about the Dinardo or Denardo family married to Caruso's from Gamberale, Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy, who immigrated to Southwestern Pennsylvania, specifically Armstrong County around 1904. They lived in various places within the county, the first record I can find is for Rayburn Township, Armstrong County, PA census for 1910.

Names include:
Julia Caruso parents, Guy and Bumbine, Sister Mary Bucci
George Denardo (have found various spellings)

Thanks!
Lonna

Thank you Lonna
In 1910, is George living in the same house with his brother/cousin Domenic and his nephew/cousin Tony?
Are you missing any of your US records?
We'll be happy to help you look.
Were both the Dinardo/Denardo and Caruso families from Gamberale?
Did Julie's family also leave Italy?

Thank you so much for offering your help.

Yes the Simmons-Presley tree is mine on Ancestry.

It does appear on the 1910 census that George is living in the same house as a relative other than his family number 157.

I do know from other family members that he was a coal miner.

After the 1930 census I have not been able to locate further census stating where they lived within the county of Armstrong.

I believe that both the Dinardo/Denardo and Caruso families are from Gamberale, Chieti area.

According to census records, Julia (1879-1965) arrived in the US in 1904 while George arrived in 1900. After doing some other research, I am aware that most Italians at the time had to be sponsored by someone or a family here in the US. The Rayburn township area of Armstrong County was a huge conglomeration of Italian families, shops, stores, etc.

I do not know if the Caruso's immigrated to the US. I do know that Julia had a sister, Mary that remained in Italy. This information I gleaned from her obituary, where also, Mary's name is written as Mary B. Ucci, but I believe this is an error and should be Bucci.

I am the first to do any research about this side of my family, so what I have found has been primarily from census records, obituaries, etc.

Again, any help would be appreciated. I am currently trying to see if my mother in law can get a hold of any aunts or sisters who might be able to help. Thanks again!

Lonna
Thank you so much for the update
The 1940 census will be available on 1 Apr 1912
Other than newspaper articles on your family and death records, local directories may help to locate where they were living after 1930.
Great idea to ask your aunts!

Hi Joe! Yes, we are related by marriage and your Denardo's are the family that I am researching!!
Guy Denardo -my husband's grandfather -is your grandmother's brother.

I have been trying to put together a history of my husband's family on both the Denardo and Presley sides (my husband's parents live in the home that was one once Guy Denardo's, Tarrtown, PA and my mother in law took care of Guy until his death in 2005).

My mother in law has little to no information about the history of either side of her family. I have been trying to put together as much as I can.

I would be grateful if you would share information with me!! Your message was a windfall!!

Please email me at ldspresley@hotmail.com.

With Great Anticipation and Respect,
Lonna
