Gaspare Russo from Balestrate

Postby bene2950 » 04 Sep 2010, 23:22

I am trying to find information on Gaspare Russo. He married Mariana Vitale and they had my grandfather, Giuseppe Russo born in 1884. I have been unable to find any records of his parents. I checked Palermo vital statistics and could not find a marriage listing them.
Where might I look next? Thank you Bill

Hello and welcome to this forum-

There are microfilmed records available for Balestrate for rental through a local family history center for the years 1820 to 1903.

Registri dello stato civile di Balestrate (Palermo), 1820-1903 Balestrate (Palermo). Ufficio dello stato civile

You can search for the nearest local center to your home on the following website:

Thank you for the reply. I will try it. I was lucky enough to find my grandmother's family back to 1800. Just cannot seem to locate any info Gaspare. I have my grandfathers birth certificate and old italian passport which is where I have started my search. Thanks again

Hi Bill :-)

Where in US did your grandfather Giuseppe live?
What year did he immigrate? Do you have his manifest?

My grandfather came to the US in 1910. He lived in Detroit where he married my grandmother, Gracia Palazzolo in 1913. I have his manifest that I obtained while at Ellis Island. I have my grandmother's as well. They moved from Detroit and settled in San Pedro, CA in the 1930's. They had seven children.

Another option would be to write directly to the comune to request birth, and marriage records...

Address:
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Via Roma, 14
90041 Balestrate (PA)
Italy

Sites with form letters in Italian...

http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... civile.asp

http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... tters.html

ALSO...there are currently 44 listings in the Italian Phone Book for Russo in Balestrate at this site...
http://www.paginebianche.it/execute.cgi ... om=0&be=10
Considering the Italian naming tradition, you might want to write to one of the Giuseppe Russo listings and inquire about possible relatives...
Site for letter to possible relative

Thank you,
That is him. I will try and get a copy of that document. They made a mistake on his birthday and wife's name. My mother was Filipina. Thanks again. Is there a place I can go to print the document.
