Finding an Address in Italy

Postby ForzaItaliaPgh » 12 Oct 2010, 15:37

Ciao Tutti,

I'm trying to find a Church in Lucca, Tuscany. The church is San Giovanni and is where my GGF was baptized. There is some discrepancy with his middle name (he used his baptismal name as a middle name here in the US) and the only document with his full name is his baptismal record. I have a picture of the register, but I think I'll need something more official so I am going to request an official record from the church, that is if I can find the address. Any ideas on how to go about this? Grazie.

You may be able to find it at paginebianche.it

What is the name of the church?

Thanks, Johnny on the Spot.

The only San Giovanni I can find is San Giovanni e Reparata. In the baptismal record is just stated the church as "San Giovanni", but it probably is the same church?

Either way, the address given is

CHIESA DI SAN GIOVANNI E REPARATA
55100 Lucca (LU)
Piazza San Giovanni

Is that a full address or would I need to include Italia or Italy or Tuscany or something else on there? Also, do they not have zip codes in Italy (maybe a stupid question)?

Chiesa di San Giovanni e Reparata
Piazza San Giovanni
55l00 Lucca (LU)
Italy

The "55100" is the equivalent of our zip code.
(LU) is for the Province

I can't say for certain that it is the correct church, but certainly a good chance.

The correct address format would be:

CHIESA DI SAN GIOVANNI E REPARATA
Piazza San Giovanni
55100 Lucca LU
ITALY

55100 is the CAP code, similar to the US Zip code. In Italy as in much of the civilized world, the code comes before the city and province name, not after as in the US.

Piazza San Giovanni is the street name.
