My Grandfather Joseph (Giuseppe) C. D'Andrea dob 5/26/1

Postby cindi1319 » 13 Oct 2010, 15:27

I am new to this research and having a hard time finding records. Maybe you can help in some way.

My grandfather Joseph (Giuseppe) C. D'Andrea born 5/26/1896 came to USA when he was approximately 15 years old. He had a brother Thomas(Attanario) D'Andrea born 8/25/1888. I am trying to find what town they were born in Italy and also their parents names and other ancestors in Italy.

The entire family settled in Pittstown, PA after they arrived apx 1903-1911 and then later my grandfather and grandmother and my father moved to Belleville, New Jersey. I did find out that my grandfather's brother Thomas D'Andrea came to USA in 1911 through census records and lived with his wife Angeline but I cannot find anything on my grandfather Joseph or his wife Josephina Mancini who later died in 1949 or 1950 in Belleville, New Jersey.

My father thinks my grandfather came from northern Italy and my grandmother came from the south but that is all I know. These websites don't tell you much and they all want money from you :-(

Thank you ever so much for your guidance and please excuse my ignorance.

Ciao,
Cindi D'Andrea

Oh thank you ever so much! I have tried all the pay sites and I keep hitting walls. More information on my family:

Joseph (Giuseppe) C. D'Andrea dob 5/26/1896 death 8/16/1975 ss# 149-18-7345 he came to USA with his parents approximate 1911 and they settled in Pittston, PA and moved to Pasco county Florida later in life where he died. He married my grandmother Josephine (Giuseppina) Mancini who died in Belleville, NJ in 1949 she had a brother Carl who was a coal miner in Pittston, PA.

Joseph and Josephine had 2 children Joseph Louis (my father) and Helen D'Andrea who later married McGillis and resided in Florida till her death several years ago.

My Grandfather had a brother Thomas (Tommaso) D'Andrea dob 8/25/1888 and death 1/30/1980 ss# 189-05-2906. He settled in Pittston, PA with his wife Angeline and later died in Pompano, Florida.

I am trying to find out my great grandparents names and where in Italy they came from so I can do my research there. I also welcome finding and meeting any living relatives D'andrea & Mancini in USA and Italy as my parents were estranged from my grandfather and I never had the opportunity to meet and enjoy that side of my family...

Thank you ever so much in advance for all your help and guidance...
Cindi D'Andrea

OMG! Thank you ever so much!!! I'm so excited!!!
I don't know why I can find info on my great uncle but I can find nothing on my grandfather or grandmother.

Thanks to your kindness I now know my uncles name was Attanario instead of Tommaso and that they were from Naples. I never would have imagined he was born in Greece so now that leads me to believe that possibly my great grandmother may have been Greek! I am still trying to find out my great grandparents names and of course anything about my grandmother Josephine (Giuseppina) Mancini and her family.

Your network of people here are angels and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Cindi, you're very welcome!
I think they were from the Campobasso province in Molise Italy
The town on the naturalization paperwork is probably near Termoli, Campobasso, Molise.
The town name on the second page of the manifest (far right side) appears to be the same as on the naturalization paperwork.
Finding the uncle they were joining in Pittston, or your grandfather(!) will probably help.
Valarie

note: the uncle Thomas and his wife were joining in Pittston was Vincenzo Galasso b abt 1859 in San Giacomo degli Schiavoni, Campobasso, Molise...

It's so strange that you can easily find all this information on my uncle but none on my actual grandfather. I wonder why he is such a mystery?

At least now I know my great grandfather is Angelo D'Andrea and the town they came from. I know my great grandmother came to USA because she lived with my father and my grandparents before she died. they all lived on Parsonage Street in Pittston, PA. That much my father remembers but not much else...

Any other info would be a blessing and I send you my gratitude for taking the time out to do this for me ;-)

Cindi
They may be difficult to find on US census records if their name was misspelled, badly transcribed or they were using nicknames.
Do you know when/where their children Joseph Louis and Helen were born?
It may help us zero in on a census location.
Thanks, Valarie

note: Helen abt 1925 in Pittston?

Nice work, Valarie! :D

Looks like Giuseppe's brother Thomas (Attanasio) and wife Angelina are living at the same address listed under the surnmane Andrews.

How are you linked into so much information when I spent the past 2 weeks non stop since I came back from Italy just trying to get information on my grandparents and where they came from? I paid so much money to Ancestry.com and all the linked sites they sent me to only to hit walls and toss what little $$ I have in the garbage. If it wouldn't have been for God sending me an angel named Valerie I was about to give up today...

I would like to expand and learn more about my grandmother's Mancini lineage but I know nothing at all about her only that she died in 1949 or 1950 in Belleville, NJ and she had a brother Carl Mancini who worked in the coal mine in Pittston, PA.

Once again thank you ever so much for your time and if you tell me legitimate sites to search that actually help and not rob you I would appreciate it so much ;-)
