Contact to Mereto di Tomba (Udine region)

Postby Odecca » 19 Oct 2010, 04:54

Hello,

one of my ancestors was from Mereto di Tomba, I'm trying to find some contact to the city, or some archives. The email-adresses of the official webpage of Mereto di Tomba, are all not working.

alternatively there might be some other way to get some information about ancestors in this city?

I'm thankfull for any help.

Hello and welcome to the forum-

is this the email address that you tried?

anagrafe@com-mereto-di-tomba.regione.fvg.it (no spaces)

If that is not working, you should write directly to the town (in Italian) and include a self-addressed, but not stamped envelope. Do not send any money. Some towns are now charging for record copies, but if they want money, they will let you know.

Here is a mailing address for the town:

Ufficio Anagrafe
Comune di Mereto di Tomba,
Via Divisione Julia, 8
33036 Mereto di Tomba (Ud)
Italia

To help you write letters in Italian you can refer to the following websites:

http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... /index.asp

http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... tters.html

Just a suggestion-
The more specific information you can provide the town with, the better your chances of getting information. If you have to estimate a year of birth or death, for example, a five year range is fine, but if you give them a 20 or 30 year range, they will tell you they haven't found any information. They probably won't even try to search for it.

You might also consider writing to a possible relative in Mereto di Tomba...

Here is the Italian phone book link...

Put last name in the "chi/cosa" area, and Mereto di Tomba in the "dove" area.

Letters in Italian to possible relatives...

Thanks Tessa,

Does anyone know if such small villages have archives? I mean Mereto di Tomba has just around 3000 souls, not really much. Any experience?

I just came across the following website and don't know if there is anything useful for you on it. You might want to look at it.

So I promised to write my experience, the email-adress worked very well, contact was very friendly. And they searched the archive for me and got even some information.

And I will even get a copy of the original, send by post. This all without paying any Cent.

By the way google translater might be not the best but it worked pretty well to communicate with them.
