Seeking information on Nicola Olivieri

Postby jackiegian » 25 Oct 2010, 21:16

I have been trying to find immigration information for my grandfather, Nicola Olivieri. I have his Certificate of Naturalization (No. 6259338, Petition No. 1247). He was born June 8, 1888 in Canzano, Italy. He was married in Philadelphia in 1922. I have also been able to find a WWI registration card from Delaware (which surprised me, as I never knew he lived there) and a WWII registration card from Wildwood, New Jersey. With that information, how can I find his immigration date, ship, etc?

there is a record on Ellis Island... Nicola Oliveri (birthdate estimated at 1884 - age incorrectly read as 29 - should be 25 making his birth year 1888)

arrived 6/15/1913 on "Floride" from Havre going to Philadelphia leaving father Giuseppe Olivieri in Canzano, Teramo, Italy

his first trip to USA

Note: His name is spelled Oliveri but his father's is spelled Olivieri

there is a naturalization notation: 3-181177 3/25/40

Is this your Nicola?

Everything seems to line up, except for the naturalization date. His certificate is dated January 8, 1945. It also says he was a "miner." Would a mason or bricklayer qualify as the same thing?

I can't make out what it says under part about joining a relative or friend. Thank you for your help.

The dat on the manifest is not the date of naturalization, but the date that he first started the process. So it is quite conceivable he filed first papers and took 5 years to get throught the whole process.

Friend's name is Luigi Marinelli, but I can't make out the rest.

there is an Antonio Olivieri (son of Giuseppe of Canzano) who came over in 1921 (June 3) on the San Giorgio out of Naples to Philadelphia. He was 23 and a mason. Possibly a family occupation.

Luigi Marinelli is from the same town as my grandfather, although I never heard the name before.

Yes, Antonio was my grandfather's brother. They were in business together for a while.
