Will LDS ever digitize records?

Postby blissiorio » 06 Dec 2010, 19:41

HI all,

Just joined this forum, it looks wonderful! I have been researching my Italian ancestry seriously for about 2 years now. I regularly go to the local Family Histoy Center and view microfilms. It's great that I don't need to buy a plane ticket on Alitalia to get there, but man is it frustrating, I can go for maybe 2 hours at a time for maybe 3 times a month. So, the progress is very slow.

It would be a dream of mine if they ever digitized these films. I'd pay for them, it would be so nice to be able to look through them on my home computer, when I had time to, rather than at their center.

Maybe I am venting a bit.... but what are the chances that these get digitized or are somehow available electronically in the future?

-Bill

I believe they are digitizing some records but you can only download them at the centre not on line.

There are many (or few...) records that are already digitized and available on line, see https://beta.familysearch.org/

They are adding records online. Here is a list of their current projects.

I agree with you, it's hard to get to the Family History Center with their hours. Mine is only open on Wednesdays, 2-5 and it's closed for all of July and August.
My Italian surnames:

Caserta: Maietta, Rossano, Tessitore, Negro, Peluso, Musone

Campobasso: D'Andrea, Barile

Catanzaro: Fiorelli/Fiorillo, Romito
