help with surnames

Postby stilicho » 07 Dec 2010, 18:19

Hi! i am new to the forum, and i see that many people here are great at searching family surnames.

i have great interest in this, and have done much research on the subject.

anyway, i am looking for any information regarding my family surnames of Angerame and pillizzi.

through looking at family records, and internet archives, i see that the Angerame name can be traced back to Rome, for at least 200 plus years, with one source claiming much further, but orininates from the south possibly, as for pillizzi,i find only roman roots.

any help, info, or tips on how to get more info would be greatly appreciated.

Using the Webpages by Stephen P. Morse we get 31 immigrants coming through the New York Port with the surname Angerame with most of the immigrants coming from Potenza.

If you go over to Gens-Italia, and plug in the surname you will notice the surname concentration is prominent in 54 Comuni. It looks like Potenza, BASILICATA still has the most concentration. Is this what you found?

Honestly, I don't know anything but these are just a few sources I use to help track surnames. Not sure if it originated there but it is common to the area but it is also found in PIEMONTE region.

I think if you are trying to track down ancestors Montemurro may be a good place to start.
