LaFianza Family Research

Postby jllaf » 10 Dec 2010, 15:10

Trying to find more info on my grandfather Giovanni LaFianza's two brothers, Raffaele (Ralph) and Camillo. All three lived in Ferrandina before coming to NY through Ellis Island in 1897.

Here's what I know:
Camillo, born abt 1885 - per 1910 US census (which I have), lived in Brooklyn NY with new wife Anna. No known children, no death record.

Ralph, born Nov 9 1882 - married Maria Maricalda Apr 3 1904, re-married Jennie Romano Jun 12 1935. Per 1910 census, lived in SF. Per 1930 census, lived in Brooklyn. Have both WWI and WWII draft cards. Do not have actual census record details so don't know of any children. No death record.

Can you help fill in the blanks? Thank you.

Yes!

As a matter of fact, the registration card lists his employer as his brother, my grandfather!

Many thanks, suanj. You are wonderful!

John

Hi,

You probably have this already, but I am posting it for reference. Usually the mother would have been listed under her maiden name, but not in this case. Unfortunately early manifests do not have much info. Was Maria's husband already in the country?

Yes misbris, I already have that manifest. As far as I can tell, Maria's husband never made it over here. And there is confusion even to his first name. On son Raffaele's marriage license, it lists his father as Giuseppi, while on another son's Giovanni's license, his name is Vincenzo. Both licenses have the same mother's name. Wonder how that can be? I have microfilm on order from LDS from their Italian hometown and can't wait to find out more.

To continue the thread on this post, I have determined - through suanj's help - that the third brother, Camillo, went by a more Americanized first name, Thomas, as an adult. I have also found surprisingly that sometime after that he changed his last name from LaFianza to LaFrance. Can anyone post the details of the 1920 and 1930 censuses for Thomas and Anna LaFrance of Brooklyn so I can see if I have any LaFrance cousins?

Many thanks,
John

One last favor:

Can someone please post either the 1910 or 1930 census record details for Ralph (Raffaele) and Marie LaFianza, 1910 San Francisco and 1930 Brooklyn, including any children.

I would greatly appreciate it.

Many thanks,

John
