Mangani Family

Postby Josie07M11 » 12 Dec 2010, 13:39

Hi there,

I am looking for information on Giovanni Mangani but seem to have reached a road block. His son, my Nonno, Nunzio Mangani, only knows that he was born in Giarratana, Ragusa, Sicilia. He does not know his birth or death dates.

Giovanni was married to Salvatrice Cutraro. I have no information on her either. Nunzio was born on 9 August 1932 so I am guessing that Giovanni must've been born around the late 1890's- early 1900's?

If there is no information available online how would I go about writing to a parish in Giarratana for his church record?

Thanks!

Josie

Hello and welcome to the forum-
Before you get write to a parish in the town or to the town itself for records and information, you need to gather as much specific information as you can.
Was Nunzio born in the U.S. or in Italy? were his parents ever in the U.S. and, if so, where did they settle? Does he have any siblings in the U.S.? were they born here or in Sicily?

The town has state civil records on microfilm from 1820 to 1899. Those have to rented through a local family history center.

This is the official website for the town.

http://www.comune.giarratana.rg.it/cms/

Where is says uffici for offices in the left column, if you click on that, the next screen gives you an email link over to the right, where you could send an email to the town. But you would have to email in Italian.

A lot of towns still provide record copies at no charge. Churches, however, expect donations.

the following thread may help you with that-

Thanks so much! Actually Nunzio was born in Giarratana then moved to Ramacca, Catania, Sicilia where he married Giuseppina Rapisarda and had my father Giovanni Mangani. They all moved to Australia in the 1960's. (I was born and continue to live in Australia).
