Vetere born in Cosenza

Postby kim1116 » 19 Dec 2010, 14:00

My great-grandfather, Gilberto Domenico Vetere, born in Cosenza on January 10, 1886, came to the US around 1900. His father's name was Pietro. I'm searching for his mother's name/surname and birth location or if there might be anything else connecting him with this town in Italy.
Thanks in advance for any help. Kim

I believe that follow record could be abt the same family;
Gilbert is James here; I suspect that the real first name was not Gilberto Domenico:

If the 1900 census is abt the right family,

it is strange that abt the other 2 children of Pietro Vetere, well they was born after so much year's difference with Gilberto birth...

Frankly seeming that 1900 census sound right, but let me know your suggestions...

What a great find of the 1900 census! I'm sure that is them.
Pietro was a stonecutter and arrived in 1864, lived in Phila., PA.

I did already have copies of the 1910, 1920 & 1930 census for Gilbert @ 1512 Reed St Phila PA. His two brothers were born here in Phila.
Gilbert's mother's name changed every time but thanks to the Archivio/Cosenza link I am satisfied that her name was Alessandrina Morrone and also that Gilbert was born, Domenic, in Aprigliano.

Thanks to your help, I was also able to locate the ship manifest Pietro was listed on with the surname, "Vetari", dated 6/4/1894.

Great job & thanks again. Kim
