Mariutto family from Udine

Postby StevieB » 22 Dec 2010, 19:07

Hi, I am looking for assistance in tracing my maternal grandfather and his ancestry. He became known in England as James Edward Marriott, but the surname was changed from Mariutto in the early 1920s. I am not sure what the original christian name(s) was/were either - as those seem very English. He was definitely born on 10 November 1893. The family are known to have come from the Udine area of Northern Italy and his parents may, and I stress may, have been called Giovanni and Mathilda. It is also not clear when the family moved from Italy to the London area, but it is likely that this was after the birth of my grandfather - he served in the English army in WW1 and was invalided out quite early, with a shell wound to the leg. There was also a brother, who I seem to recollect was called Ugo. They were in the business of terrazzo flooring and were involved with another Italiian family called Segatto.
Thanks for your patience in reading this and for any possible help :) .

Steve,
If you think Cavasso Nuovo may be your family's original comune, your nearest Family History Center can order records for Cavasso Nuovo on microfilm.
Valarie

The cost is about $5.50 US mo (rent), you’ll need to go to the center to order & view them.

Wow, that's brilliant folks - so much in such a short time, and also confirming the sketchy facts I possessed.
The WW1 stuff stacks up perfectly and I guess the father being John is an anglicised version of Giovanni.
Many thanks.

Hi:

To allow easier researches, the Archive of the State of Udine has stored online a database called Friuli in Prim (Anagrafe Storica delle Famiglie Friuliani)

You can find more information about this website here: http://genealitalia.blogspot.com/2010/0 ... -prim.html

For example, I found this record:

MARIUTTO GIOVANNI
Nato nel 1877 a CAVASSO NUOVO da DOMENICO e FRANCESCON DOMENICA

Atto di leva IT/ASUD/LEVA/1877/E.001/MNG/P-264
Istituto ARCHIVIO DI STATO - UDINE (IT)
Fondo FONDO DI LEVA
Serie 1897
Fonte Liste di estrazione 1
Numero Atto 264 (MANIAGO)

Hi, I am a mariutto from holloway. My grandfather was Philip (fillippe) mariutto. Perhaps there is a connection here.
Let me know. I have access to a pretty good Mariutto family tree, I may be able to help. Also interested in if you have any info you can share with me.
Good luck
mariutto

Hi, If this is the Philip born in 1885, then he was the elder brother of my maternal grandfather, James Edward, born in 1893. I would certainly be interested in any information you have on the family. You can contact me on stevebroomers@aol.com or 01766 831221. Thanks and Best Regards, Steve Broomfield
