Cappiccilli, Giuseppe americanized to Joseph

Postby 12victoria3 » 30 Dec 2010, 01:27

Joseph "Giuseppi" Cappiccilli , DOB 1866-1867, came from Italy and imigrated to Newport Rhode Island, USA in 1888. He died appoximately 1946 in Providence R.I. USA. He married Lucia Piedmont. They had several children. All this I know for sure. I have not been able to find where he imigrated from, where he was born in Italy. There is a passenger list for 1888 saying that point of departure was Naples, Italy arriving in New York for a Giuseppi Cappiccilli. Also, in census records in Newport is occupation is listed as hairdresser. There is an Anthony Cappiccilli that worked as a hairdresser at the same address as Joseph. In a 1900 census, Anthony is listed DOB as June 1865. This appears to be Josephs brother which I was suprised to learn because no one in the family ever mentioned an "Uncle".
I would like to find where they were born in Italy.
Any ideas? where I can look?

Also Lucia Piedmont or Piedmonti came from Italy which I also don't know what part. Ideas would be greatly appreciated

Hi Valarie that important clue! The Giuseppe Cappuccilli mother maiden name could be D'Addario...
I am sure that he coming from Ripabottoni( Campobasso province); also the Lucia maiden name, Piedimonte, is a surname of Ripabottoni; the better way is to search in Ripabottoni civil records by LDS microfilms; I am sure that the topic author will find the birthacts of ancestors...

Thank you to all for the information on Joseph Cappiccilli. I will "fly" with this infromation. My trip to the Library and Town Hall yesterday gained more info. for me but I never learned of Joseph's place of birth or his parents names. What a surprise to gain that info. today. Thank you again

After the great start by VJ and suanj, I have found more information on your family at the library where I have the records of Ripabottoni on microfilm available to me. Because of the snow here, have been unable to get to it earlier and well attempt to get back next week to find more.

This is what I have found so far, all occuring in the town of Ripabottoni.

BR
Giuseppe Antonio Cappuccilli was born on 3 Jun 1866 to
Giovanni Antonio Cappuccilli, age 31 and son of the late Michaelangelo and to his wife,
Maria Antonia d'Addario, age 38 and daughter of Domenico.

BR
Maria Lucia Filomena Piedmonte was born 15 Dec 1869 to
Fortunato Piedmonte, age 24 and son of the late Giuseppe, and to his wife
Antonia Cappuccilli, age 24 and daugther of Archangelo.
She married Giuseppe Antonio Cappuccilli in Ripabottoni on 22 Dec 1892.

BR
Fortunato Piedmonte was born 15 Apr 1844 to
Giuseppe Piedmonte, age 26 and to his wife
Lucia Todaro, age 23

BR
Antonia Cappuccillo was born 20 Oct 1843 to
Archangelo Cappucillo, age 25 and to his wife
Rachele Testa, age 26

MR
Banns of marriage published 4 Dec 1892 between
Giuseppe Antonio Cappucilli, age 26, a barber, born in Ripabottoni and son of
Giovanni Antonio Cappucilli, farmer and resident of Nuova ??? and his wife Maria Antonia d'Addario
and Maria Lucia Filomena Piedmonte, age 23, daugther of the late Fortunato Piedmonte and his wife, the late Antonia Cappucilli. I don't recognize the town that Giovanni and his wife are living in, but a long shot would be that they are in New Jersey. (When I post the orignals, someone can help with the translation.)

I have copied the originals, but for some reason, my photo program updated in Windows and now I don't know how to use it. Ugg, As soon as I can, I will send links to the originals for you to have.

Have a great day

Back later when I get more.
