I am searching for my grandfathers roots. His US naturalization papers state his name was Ferdinando Massuro or Mazzuro born in Sancrevalio, Caserta, Italy on June 16, 1879. He came to the US with his brother Raffaele in 1891. His father's name was Allesandria and his mother's name ws Angiola Antonette Fevola. His brother returned to Italy and my grandfather stayed in the US.
The 1920 record is my family. I can follow them somewhat in the US. My main interest is when he lived in Italy and the first 8 or so years after he arrived in the US. I do have a copy of his naturalization document (only states Italian) as well as a copy of the application he completed to apply for naturalization (I found the data I have here). I don't know when he started using the name Joe Ross. He worked on the railroad and ended up in Mississippi where he met and married my grandmother on Sept 2, 1905. Don't know where he was prior to that time. The story my mother told me was he was a stowaway on the ship with his brother when his brother made a business trip to NYC. They stayed with an Uncle in NY and when his brother returned to Italy, he stayed behind. He was between 12-14 years at the time. I heard that the uncle moved to South America. Supposedly leaving my grandfather the only family member left in US.
