Consenza - Gioscia

Postby bkworm10 » 09 Jan 2011, 21:11

Hi,

I finally received the baptismal records from PAHRC in Philadelphia and received a new clue about Carmela Gioscia, the elusive g-g-grandmother that I am trying to find. On the baptismal record of her son, it says that she and her husband (deceased) are from Consenza. Now I know her husband Vito Sarricchio is not from Consenza, because I have his birth record from Accettura. However, I could never find his wife's birth record or marriage record in Accettura, so I'm wondering if she is the one from Consenza? In any event, I do not know anything about Consenza, other than the search I just did - I guess it's a small city in the Calabria region, which is south of the Matera region that my ancestors came from. Does anyone know if Gioscia is a common name there? Are there any online records of Consenza? All I know about Carmela is that she was born in Italy about 1860 and that she had 3 daughters and a son with Vito Sarricchio - Teresa (my g-grandmother), Isabella, Francesca (all born in Accettura) and Rocco, born in Philadelphia in 1898.

Thanks for any help! A.

Thanks, I did try that. No Gioscia's. The closest I came was Giosa and just one - Rosa.

Most Gioscia's seem to come from Foggia area.

Thanks Marty - you know it's a possibility she is from Potenza. I am relying on the interpretation of the PAHRC staff (they sent me a typewritten report, not copies of the original baptism) and maybe Consenza is really Potenza. Laurenzano, in Potenza has a lot of Gioscia's. Something else to think about. And, I think Potenza, Laurenzano has their records online at ancestry.

Thanks! A.

Hi Ive been looking and changing the spelling of Gioscia like DeGioscia or DaGioscia no luck. When you get the record post it so I can see I like to see the spelling on the record.
Heres another avenue there is a Vito in Accettura write him and see if he is a relative I can send you a form letter for this that you can send with a return envelope with a international rely coupon so it might cost you a couple bucks it might be worth it for some info.

Sarricchio Vito
75011 Accettura (MT)
Vicolo I Pozzo, 26

Thanks Marty. Actually there are about 3 or 4 Sarricchio's in Accettura. I had planned to write to all of them, but I wanted to have more information before I did so. I just received the Processetti for Accettura, during the years they (and my other ancestors) would have been married, so I'm hoping to find more clues on the Sarricchio family and possibly Vito and Carmela's marriage record. The microfilm arrived last week, but I was unable to go. Tonight is the next night I can go, but we just got dumped with 8+ inches of snow and I don't know if they will be open. (They are only open 1 night a week.)

Could you please send me the form letter you mention? Today may be a good day to get those letters going!

Thanks again! A.

I was telling Tessa that the last film had indexes on it but I went to every file anyway and there last couple feet on the film 2 marriage records not even listed so I got lucky going through every record on the film. Hope you got a snowblower and hope the church is open for you
Good Luck Marty
