Origins of the Capaldi Family Name

Postby stuartcapaldi » 24 Jan 2011, 16:06

During my successful search for my Capaldi forebears I have not managed to discover the exact single location of origin of the Capaldi family name.

The Capaldi families who emigrated throughout the world seem to have originated from 3 main locations viz:
San Giuseppe, Picinisco
San Michele, Cassino (San Germano)
Selvone, Filignano

Are there any known links between these locations? e.g did the Capaldi name start in Cassino and move to San Giuseppe? Or vice versa.

Is there any truth in the story that the Capaldi families from Selvone moved there from San Giuseppe?

Finally General Capaldi from San Giuseppe who supported Garibaldi, can anyone give me some details e.g. his first name and his forebears and also when did he join the forces of Garibaldi.

If you have any information on the above matters or able to direct me to where I can get more details please advise me.

Thanks for any information which will be much appreciated
:D

If this is General Pasquale Capaldi, he was born in Atina and owned a house in San Giuseppe.
He is registered in the parish census of 1860 in Picinisco.

Celebrations are happening all over Italy for its 150 anniversary of unification.
In Sora we are putting together an exhibition of memorabilia in Mid April.
In Rome at the Altare della Patria in Piazza Venezia there is a war museum with a good part dedicated to Garibaldi complete with a list of his soldiers.

lists Garibaldi's men and Capaldi is not on the list.

Thanks Ann

His involvement with Garibaldi may be just a myth?

That is why I asked as I also could not find any written evidence that he supported Garibaldi.

More info on the Capaldi name origin would also be helpful

Also a further request,

Does anyone know of the first record of the Capaldi name?

This of course includes the name Capaldo which I believe is the same family name.

Any information would be much appreciated

Thanks

A search of the Stato delle Anime at Montecassino Abbey from the 1600's might help you take this further back.
