Ceruzzi surname

Postby Ceruzzi » 04 Feb 2011, 02:09

Hi. Does anyone have any information about the Ceruzzi surname? It seems to originate from the towns of Rionero in Vulture and Genzano di lucania in the province of Potenza. I suspect the name may be Arbëreshë in origin, although I don't have any proof. Does anybody have information?

hmmm, yes the vulture region definitely seems to be the home of the name.
I haven't been able to find anything else out though. It's rare enough that surname meaning websites don't really have any information. Why would a surname be so rare(less than 100 people)? and are there any clues that would tell me if it has a slavic foreign?

Have you tried the spelling Ciruzzi for the surname? In my ancestral town of Stigliano in Matera Province, the surname was spelled with an i and not an e as the second letter.
