In requesting info/documents from the Stato Civile Palermo..

Postby ginaruiz1998 » 07 Feb 2011, 20:25

I am preparing to send them a letter requesting some documents and I understand everything that the website wants me to do except this:

non si accettano marche da bollo e francobolli.

Can someone tell me what this means? Also, Has anyone else requested anything from them before? How did it go?

Thank you!

the translation is "we do not accept tax stamps and mail stamps".

When I write to Palermo civil record office,
for sure I write only in italian, I attach to my letter
a self addressed stamped envelope and copy of my ID.
and in a couple of weeks I get the certificates I need.
I hope it helps
bye Riccardo

Thank you! I've written to Bagheria and Novara Sicila before, in Italian, and have received responses! Does the above mean that they will not accept IRC's?

Well, I dont understand why they have written it.
One of the thing Palermo registrar used to tell me, is "please attach to you request the self addressed stamped envelope".
If you want to send a IRC, explain to the registrar what it is, because many people dont know.
I hope it helps

OK! Seeing as I live in the States...a SASE would have US postage...I do not have a way of getting Italian stamps...just IRC's.

Yes, attach IRC's to your request, and explain to the registrar (in italian) that he can go to the post office with it and change them into regular stamps to USA.
I hope it helps

I will do that! Just out of curiosity, this is my first attempt to get anything from Palermo...in your experience, will they verify ( perhaps via email) that the document that I'm looking for even exists BEFORE I send them the letter, IRC's and requested funds????

You need to send to Palermo civil record office a written request, in italian.
If you write them an email, that is a written request.
I dont know if they ever reply to email, but at least you did sent your written request. At least try, if you do not get a reply within a month, write a regular letter as I told you to do
ciao Riccardo
