I have one thing to say....
T H A N K Y O U!!!!

Ok, maybe more than one thing...OMG!!

I seem to remember the del Monaco part of it but didn't remember that until you said it. On my grandmother's grave it says Monaco...

I am going to go searching now for all this. My major problem was assuming (!) that she came in Ellis Island. I didn't know ships came in Providence. I can't wait to call my dad.

AGAIN...THANK YOU!!

Now, you got that info on Ancestry.com?

Had some time when through 1891 and 1893 atti nascita no records for 1892 for some reason for Teano,Caserta no sisters birth records came up but a Benedetto De Monaco came up twice once in may 1891 page 45 index 125 and again in 1893 page 65 index 188 fo the birth of a son both times named Michelle the one must of died so he named the second son the same name because on the record its the same address and same wifes name Antila Forestiero so it must be the same Benedetto.Maybe you could write or email Teano and ask them if there are birth records for 1892 in the town records or if something happen to them. Also there are other De Monaco 's listed in Teano if you want them in those years if you want them I have the page numbers

Hi Jo-Anne :-)

Don't know if you have found this by now, but I think this is Antoinetta's manifest... 1911
Place of Birth is Baia Latina, leaving mother Teresa there.
Going to uncle Benedetto DelMonaco in Providence, RI

Boston Passenger and Crew Lists, 1820-1943
about Antonia Delmonaco
Name: Antonia Delmonaco
Arrival Date: 6 Jun 1911
Age: 18
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1893

Gender: Female
Ethnic Background: Italian (South) (Italian)
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Ship Name: Romanic
Port of Arrival: Boston, Massachusetts
Friend's Name: Benedetto Demonico (listed as her uncle in RI)
Last Residence: Italy
Birthplace: Banlakna, Italy (probably a poor transcription of Baia Latina)

OMG...that's got to be her. I found a wedding document too and it lists her name as Antonia as well. So now I know my great grandmother is Teresa!! And it's got tobe her because of the Benedetto who lived near them in 1920. OMG, I cannot wait to call my dad.

THANK YOU!!!!

Jo-Anne,

You might want to write directly to the comune (town) of Baia e Latina for your grandmother's birth record. Just because we didn't find it doesn't mean they don't have the record.

You will need to write your letter in Italian...
Here's help.
http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... talrecords
http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... civile.asp

Be sure to include any information you can about Antonia/Antonetta - approximate birth date, name of mother, etc.

Address:
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Via XX Settembre
81010 Baia e Latina (CE)
ITALY

I actually wrote to them and when we found Teano in the records, I wrote them as well. I hope they find info. I used an Italian Translation and when I translated it back, I sounded like an idiot...you know how that goes!!!

You have been such a big help. Do you do this for a living or as a hobby? I'll tell you what, it's been driving me nuts. It's so hard when they don't read and write English!!!

Are you on Facebook?

I meant my grandparents...my grandfather could read and write Italian but my grandmother couldn't. She made a mean pasta so it was ok!!! :)

It's hard to find records when they kept changing the spelling of their names. UGH.

I'm on facebook if you are... Jo-Anne Vallarine King is my name on there.

Spelling in census records is terrible... It certainly makes searching a challenge... :-D
