Help reading ship manifest

Postby joed99 » 21 Feb 2011, 18:37

Looking to locate the two towns listed for the two Di Lorenzo's listed on the bottom of this ship manifest listed below. Giovanni is my grandfater. I have not been able to locate the town listed as his Last residence.

Any help would be appreciated

Looks like Capella but there are numerous Capella's but with the M after it might be Capella Maggiore in the province of Treviso region of Veneto Italy in the north
You might be better off to find his naturallaztion papers it will give his birth place in Italy Where did he wind up in the states?

One of them it seems to me Spoltore (Pescara Province - Abruzzo region), while the first one maybe is Cappelle sul Tavo ?? just 3 miles far from Spoltore..?

I agree with Laura (ciao Laura). One of the town is Spoltore.

About "Cappelle M", it stands for Cappelle Montesilvano. Cappelle and Montesilvano were two different neighbouring towns in the past up to 1800. Then, for administrative reasons they were unified in one and called Cappelle Montesilvano. They regained their indipendence in 1904-1905 and became two separate towns. One called Cappelle sul Tavo and the other one Montesilvano. Your Grandfther left in 1902 so he could have been from any of the two.....

Ada, thanks for the info on Capella M being the name of two towns that merged.

Another question, my understanding is that before a male Italian could emigrate he would have to serve in the military. Where would the
se records be found?

Thanks Joed
