Need help finding CENSUS record

Postby LeandraCat » 15 Mar 2011, 13:07

Hello!

I am totally lost as to why I cannot find a 1900 or 1910 Census record for this family! I have even tried looking by address where they supposedly lived and NOTHING!

I would really appreciate some help!

I am looking for:

Antonino/Antonio Schiro - born 1875 in Italy - husband
Francesca Schiro (Maddi) - born 1881 in Italy - wife
Antonina/Anna Schiro - born 1898, 11 Delancey Street, NY - daughter
Rose Schiro - born 1900, New York

In the 1920 Census, both Anna and Rose are living together in New Jersey, both widowed, both have two kids each. In the 1920 Census they are Anna Lombardo and Rose Sacco.

I have Anna Schiro's actual Birth Record, which states she was born at 11 Delancey Street, New York City, in 1898. Her father was 23 at the time, and her mother was 17, it says.

Thanks again SO MUCH!
Julia

Marty, I found that too, thanks...although I cannot be sure this is the guy I am looking for.
But even if the father WAS in Prison, wouldn't the mother and the girls live somewhere?

If father was in prison, mother and children may have gone to Italy where they would have a broader support network. Keep in mind, many people crossed the ocean two, three, or more times; it wasn't terribly expensive, once you had some sort of income.

The first crossing was usually the most difficult as most of our ancestors lived off the land and didn't ever have more tha a few coins at any given time.

Anyway, it may be worthwhile to look for a return trip for Francesca and children.

Thank you Carmine. It's possible that Francesca would have gone to Italy, but I doubt it. She had family in the United States and could have stayed with her parents (who originally brought her to the US). I also think she might have re-married a man named Louis Morales, however, I cannot find a Census record for her and Louis before 1920...
