Brunesti family from Calabria

Postby NonItalian » 27 Mar 2011, 01:49

I have a lead on another aspect of my wife's family. Her great grandfather married a woman named Mary Rose Brunesti, a first generation American from an Italian immigrant family. Her father immigrated in 1993. The names we have for him include Thomas, Toney, Domenico, and possibly Dontato Brunesti. His father was Antonio Brunesti. His immigration date was April 8, 1882. We believe Mary Rose's family was from the Calabria region. Because, I've decided, the Ellis Island web site hates me, I was wondering if anyone had any info on this particular family?

Thanks in advance!

Mark

Hi Mark,

The surname "Brunesti" does not exist in present day Italy.

It is possible the name was actually "Brunetti" which is found throughout Calabria.

Yes I would agree - Brunetti sounds like it could be the surname.

What do we know for certain about Mary Rose?

Yeah, I had suspected it could be Brunetti. I have a Dontato Antonio BRUNETTI entering the US at around the same time that I had Toney Brunesti entering, but there are so many different names for what appear to be the same man, I can't yet be certain it was the same guy.

I don't have a tremendous amount of info on Mary before she married Ferucio Testi (of the other thread). I'll try to compile a mini-bio after church.

Well, if the 1910 census for Thomas & Bresa in Olean is the correct family, perhaps this manifest for Tomasso Brunetti, going to his father Antonio, is what you are looking for?
