how do I obtain a birth certificate for my grandfather

Postby lorene » 29 Mar 2011, 01:45

Bueno Serra,
I am trying to obtain my grandfather's birth certificate. He was born in Butera, Sicily. I was there this summer, but they did not have a copy on record, but had records for him. Now what? Grazie, lorene

It is wonderfll that you were there. My Ancestors are from Mussomeli and Piazza Armerina. They had records but not his birth record? Interesting.

Birth Record for Concetta Federico, born June 3, 1891 in Butera, Sicily

Image

Concetta was presented at the town hall on June 6, but born on the 3rd of June 1891.
Father was Domenico Federico, 44, landowner, who declared that at 9:05 PM at the house at Via Federico, from a natural union with Francesca Patti, 20, housewife, not his wife, residing in Butra, was born a female child who he presented to the official and to whom was given the name Concetta.

Notation in left column states that Concetta is the legitimate daughter of Domenico Federico and Francesca Patti by the marriage celebrated in Butera on 22 September 1898.

Second notation is the marriage of Concetta to Cono Valentino Bunetta on 29 September 1907 in Butera.

O my gosh! Thank you so much Tessa. Amazing! When I was visiting there this past summer I saw the marriage certificate but not the birth certificates. My sister and I were so overwhelmed and not thinking that we should have secured copies of documents at that time.
Now, I need to secure certificates to begin an application for citizenship, right?
And I am so lost in this process, I do not knoe where to start.
And according to laws, would I be elible for citizenship? I am lookin for any help I can get!
You are a dream. Thanks

You will need certified copies of these documents for dual citizenship application...

BUT - before you send for them, my suggestion would be to post a topic on the forum here - "Emigration, Immigration, Naturalizataion and Italian Citizenship"... There are several volunteers who could help you determine if you are ELIGIBLE for dual citizenship... AND explain the process :-)

From the Social Security Death Index... Is this your father?

Name: Michael J. Bariso
SSN: XXX_XX-5560
Last Residence: 33324 Fort Lauderdale, Broward, Florida, United States of America
Born: 6 Dec 1921
Died: 15 Jan 2004
State (Year) SSN issued: New Jersey (Before 1951)

You can send away for his Social Security Application )SS-5) which should give the names of this parents and their place of birth...
It is important to know the EXACT place of birth because that is where records are kept (in the town). Naples is both a city and a Province - so it is important to narrow this down.

To request online...
