Anybody heard of the name Twanene?

Post by Tinda »

I am trying to find out if my grandmother's name is real. I was told that her real name was Twanene (twa-nene) Cardaropoli. They called her Jenny. English translation is supposed to be Janine. Anyone ever heard it before?

There are 39 cities towns and villages with the surname Cardaropoli and are mostly concentrated in the Campania region and the Naples.Salerno,Avellino, benevento and caserta provinces. I suspect that the first name was Giovanina but the pronounced it (phonetically) JOE-A-NINA. Is there anything you wish to know? Peter

Maybe "they" gave her a nickname and it stuck because it is easier to say. No doubt it was given to her by non-italians because pronouncing JOE-AH-NEENA was not easy for the jaws(?). Peter
