Ciarla Family in Ripabottoni, Province of Campabasso, Molise

Postby Charles30 » 09 Apr 2011, 19:23

I'm currently visiting Italy and I am searching for any relatives of mine who might be located in or around the town of Ripabottoni, Italy. My aunt has tracked our family line back to Ribottoni, Italy. My great grandfather, Gulian Ciarla, arrived in America around 1895. He entered the states through Ellis Island and had sailed out of Napels. My great grandfather kept the name Ciarla, but all his children took the name Charles.

I am currently staying with a family in Vellentri, Italy. Apparently from what my host family has told me, Ciarla is one of the most common surnames in the area. I'll be in Italy for the rest of the month, but only in Vallentri for the rest of the week. I plan to visit the town of Ripabottini sometime next week, and I'm hopeing I can find somebody who has some additional information for me to help me in my search.

There are many Ciarla listings in Velletri. However, keep in mind that the population of Velletri is 53,298 while the population of Ripabottoni is 644! Ciarla is, in fact, the most common name in Ripabottoni. It is odd that Ciarla is also common in the town where Charles30 is staying. BTW Charles30, when you arrive in Ripabottani, go to the Ufficio dello Stato Civile and you should be able to view the original birth, marriage, and death records for your ancestors. If a relevant record is found you may be able to find the house where the family was living at the time.

Thanks for the advice, hopefully I'll be able to research some birth records and find some answers. If I actually find some relitives currently living in either town, breaking the language barrier will probably be the hardest part. I only know some basic words and phrases, but a conversation is impossible unless somebody knows some English.
It's a shot in the dark, My host family knows 3 families with the name Ciarla, but none are related to eachother.
