Searching for USA arrival for- Pizzaiola

Postby gemellua » 15 Apr 2011, 20:17

Does anyone know if Ancestry list USA arrivals for the late 1960s? I tried searching, but
Ancestry comes up with no one with this surname. I don't have a subscription. Thanks

There may be a few, but I think you have a bigger problem: the name Pizzaiola is not present in modern Italy (except for a few pizzarias), leading me to believe that the spelling has become corrupted over time. See http://www.paginebianche.it/execute.cgi ... a&dv=&l=en and also http://www.gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/gen ... =PIZZAIOLA

Perhaps with some additional detail, we will be able to figure out the correct name and find some records.

Carmine: Thanks for replying. The research I'm doing is for a friend. I had already checked on Paginebianche before creating my post here. My problem as you stated is that only pizzarias come up when I search Google etc. I even tried typing in the word "surname" before it. No luck. As far as my friend knows her grandfather didn't have siblings.

I'll have to find out if she knows her grandmother's maiden name. As I said, they arrived in the USA in the late 1960's. I believe they arrived by ship not plane. Is there a way to access records from this era? Again, thank you for your help.

On this page, http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/ , the National Archives states that they have passenger manifests dating to 1982 however I don't see a way to access these later records. You may wish to investigate.

Does your friend know if her grandparents naturalized in the US? If so, the naturalization documents should state their place and dates of birth as well as the date and manner in which they arrived in the US. Start here https://eservices.archives.gov/orderonline/ , click Order Reproductions then Immigration & Naturalization Records. When filling in the order form, you may need to put xxxxxx's or 99999's in some fields where you don't have actual info; then use the comment box for additional information. If her grandparent(s) naturalized in the federal courts, NARA will provide copies of the documents at very low cost and usually in a matter of just a few weeks.

Unfortunately, if they naturalized in state or local courts (more common in the first half of the 1900's), you will have to contact the relevant state or county archives or the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS). USCIS will definitely have the records, however they are the most expensive and slowest to respond of all the available options. I found only 1 name with similar surname spelling:
U.S. Public Records Index, Volume 2
about Saverio Pizzaola
Name: Saverio Pizzaola
Birth Date: 3 Oct 1937

residence Irmo, SC, USA

the same person having other surname spelling, more correct:
U.S. Public Records Index, Volume 1
about Saverio E Piazzola
Name: Saverio E Piazzola
Birth: 3 Oct 1937
Residence: 1986 - Shirley, NY
[Irmo, SC]
Piazzola is a verson of most popular surname Piazzolla
Obviously the Saverio above is no pertaining your search; just for let you know the possible spelling, and that the surname Pizzaiola is mispelled.....

Pizzaiola not exist as surname in Italy; pizzaiola is a italian recipe especially ; pizzaiolo/a is the pizza maker also
so, maybe Piazzolla/Iazzola it could be the probable spelling....
just a suggestion,
regards,
suanj
