Belli family (possibly from Naples)

Postby Celestino » 17 Apr 2011, 14:33

Hi there!

I am searching my family's history and am struggling to trace back any further than my great-grandfather who arrived in England at around the turn of the 20th century.

Upon arrival in Liverpool, my gg changed his name from alfredo belli to bellis to anglicize it. He married an Irish woman and they were the parents of my grandfather Celestino A A Bellis and his siblings. They subsequently moved to London.

I was given the middle name Celestino (after my grandfather) and I have heard that my grandfather Celestino himself was named after an uncle (who supposedly emigrated to America from Italy and made it big!)I have been told that they were from naples.

If any of this sounds familiar to anyone please get in touch! I think there is a good chance that there will be people who have a relative named Celestino Belli in which case we would almost certainly be talking about the same family.

Also please let me know if you have any info about the origins of the Belli family etc...

Many Thanks

What makes you think they came from Naples? The 1911 census of England should tell you the town of origin.

Well my grandfather was born in 1924 and I cannot find my g-grandfather on the census as I suppose he had probably not arrived in England by 1911.

Do you have his death record? His marriage record? There are Belli in Napoli today but unless you have a good birthdate it might be difficult to trace.
