family records from Montedoro, Italy

Postby roobyred » 20 Apr 2011, 19:07

My grandparents Costantino Morreale & Rosa Sferrazza has 2 children (girls I believe) that died in Italy and never made it to America. I do not know their names. Does anyone know where I could begin to search for this information? Are there "family" records that include this information? I'm stumped! :?

There are civil registrations, including death records, available on Ancestry.com with the World Membership.

If you don't have access to this, I would be happy to look up the records...
Can you provide some approx. dates of birth for the girls or their parents?
Maybe an approx. date of marriage for the parents?

This may be one of the children you mention above...

Maria Morreale, died in 1898, 23 July, at 6 PM
at Via Vittorio Emmanuele #30
She was 26 days old and the daughter of Costantino Morreale, shepherd(?)
Death declared by Calogero Morreale, son of Giulia, 32, sulfur miner
Witness to this act:
Giuseppe Schifano, son of deceased Andrea, 46, miner
Angelo Alba, son of deceased Giovanni, 38, miner

Mother's name is not on the record - there are blanks where it would appear.

I went through all the indexes of deaths from 1876 through 1910 (years 1890, 1896, 1903, 1905, and 1906 are missing) This was the only death of a Morreale whose father was Costantino that I came across...

WOW! How did you do that so fast :?:
I was just going to tell you the births probably occurred before 1904 and my grandparents were married (i think) in 1899. Ooops if the date is correct :!:
I do have access to Ancestry.com world.
Would love to access these myself.

Thanks so much. Everyone in this forum is soooooooooooooo helpful. I hope I can recipricate one day.

Glad to help... :D

Unlike the other records, the Italian civil records on Ancestry require that you go through them page by page. They are only indexed by locality, type of record and year. That's why going through the indici themselves (which are not available on many Italian records) makes the first step easier...

For instance, the Indice Annuale Matrimonio is missing for 1899, the year you think your ancestors married. So you'll need to go to the Atti Di Matrimonio for 1899 and go through the records page by page... If you know what part of the year - that will help! :-)

Have fun... :D
