Can someone find an obituary for me please?

Postby rancelli » 21 Apr 2011, 00:23

Frank Butchelli
Born in 1871
died in 1969

Lived in Limaville, Ohio died in Alliance, Ohio. I can only find social security index, no obituary on Ancestry. I'm trying to search for some clues to maybe find out which part of Italy the family came from. Thank you

I have solved this problem in the past by contacting the local public library serving the area where the deceased lived and asking them to search newspaper archival copies for the date in question.

If you can't find an obituary, you might want to send for his Social Security Application (SS-5) - You can obtain this from SSA for a fee. This should have the names of his parents and place of birth.

Given that you have the exact date of death, I would definitely go the library route. I have done so several times, always successfully and usually at no cost.

The library in question would be The Rodman Public Library (http://www.rodmanlibrary.com/)

I used the library's Search feature to locate the two following records:

Record 1 of 2
NAME Butchelli, Frank
TITLE Obituary
NEWSPAPER TITLE The Alliance Review
NEWSPAPER DATE 5/27/1969
PAGE 2
EVENT Obituary

Record 2 of 2
NAME Butchelli, Frank
TITLE Obituary
NEWSPAPER TITLE The Alliance Review
NEWSPAPER DATE 5/28/1969
PAGE 2
EVENT Obituary

If I understand correctly, all you need to do now is to click the library's "Ask a Question" link, copy and paste the above info into the message box, and request copies of the actual obits.

Ohio Deaths, 1908-1932, 1938-1944, and 1958-2007 about Frank Butchelli
