birthplace of great grandfather

Postby joemaz40 » 25 Apr 2011, 08:42

i am trying to find the birthplace of my ggf Pietro Mazzer. he was born in 1852 and travelled to Australia with the Marquis de Rays expedition aboard the India in 1880.most of the others on the expedition came from the orsago or codogne area.his wife was Louisa Mazzer (nee Gava) and may have came from San Fior.i have searched on ancestry.com and family link with little luck.any help on where to try next would be appreciated.

Hi Joe,

I found alittle reference to the name of Pietro Mazzer and his son Tony (awarded of military medal) in this italian book:

Addio patria: emigranti dal Nord Est
di Ulderico Bernardi

http://books.google.com/books?ei=i2a1Ta ... r&q=mazzer

the author is:
http://www.uldericobernardi.it/abstract/ab-addio.html

You may write an e-mail message to Mr. Bernardi and ask him if he knows the correct birth place..

here the passenger's list of James Patterson ship in the 1881, when the italians of India Ship arrived in Sydney port:
Mazer* Pietro age 29
Mazer* Luigia age 22
(*Mazzer)
http://www.kmb-associates.com/familysea ... rivals.htm
the civil records in Treviso area starting around 1871, and in Treviso archive are only a database abt military records, for men born between 1855 - 1873 and 1874 - 1880...

suanj
