Albano from Puglia - Bari/Lecce/Taranto.

Postby nothing71 » 02 Sep 2004, 23:57

I'm trying to find information about my paternal grandfather.

His name was Giuseppe (Guiseppe?) Albano, he was born on February 24, 1885.

He went by Joseph or Joe, when he was in the US

He was born in Italy. I am unsure of the exact town, but my father’s relatives recall three places he used to talk about, all are in Puglia - Bari, Lecce, and Taranto.

They are unsure of the year he came to America.

His father was Vincenzo Albano.

His mother's maiden name was Lucia Minitola.

He lived in Hazleton, PA

I know this isn't much to work with, but any info. would be helpful.

Thanks!

BARI-LECCE-TARANTO are provincial capitals and most immigrants are from the provincial towns and villages around each of these provincial capitals. Since that expands the possiblities and you do not disclose any entry information that can be easily researched, your next step would be to research here in the USA. He does not appear to have died after 1963 so that would leave his narualization file which will give you the information you are seeking. You can either go to www.nara.gov and select immigration and then select naturalization for procedure to follow if he were narturalzied. There are people here who appear ready to furnish you with both census and naturalziation information which may solve your problem should you elect to wait. Peter

He is indicated as being in possessionof a world War 1 draft card and should you wish you can file form 180 by going to www.Nara.gov and select immigration and then order forms for the Form 180 which covers miliatry service records for ww1 and later. Peter

I gave you wrong info. Go to www.nara.gov and select search and then type in key word Form 180 and that should bring you to order form. Peter

Do you have any more information on Vincenzo Albano? My grandfather's father was born in Palmero in 1882 to a Vincenzo Albano. His name was Isadoro. Long story short the trail goes dry when trying to find info on Vincenzo.

Thanks!
